1 cup nuts, chopped
2 cups (1 pkg) dates, pitted and cut in half (or smaller)
2 cups sugar
2 Tbsp butter
2 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
salt
Pour 1 1/2 cups boiling water over dates and let stand. Cream butter and sugar, then add egg, vanilla, flour, salt, soda and nuts. Add date mixture last. Pour into greased pan and bake at 325 degrees for 75 to 90 minutes. Makes one large or two smaller loaves.
